Interesting stuff. People seem to be a little freaked out about the contents of diet and energy drinks.
PHENYLALANINE
Phenylalanine in diet cola: about 90mg
Phenylalanine in an egg: about 330mg
Phenylalanine in a glass of milk: about 500mg
The warning on diet drinks is there because about 1 in 15000 people have a condition which prevents them from breaking down phenylalanine - resulting in brain damage. If you don't have this condition - it's unlikely to be a problem.
The problem with diet drinks is that because they apparently stimulate your appetite they may have adverse effects on a diet.

TAURINE
Estimated taurine dietary intake: 40 to 400mg per day
Taurine in an energy drink: 500mg - 2000mg
Taurine in you: about 0.1% of your body weight
Taurine is pretty much essential for the body, has a host of beneficial effects and does not appear to have significant negative effects.

GUARANA
Caffeine in coffee: 1 - 2%
Caffeine in Guarana: 2 - 4.5%
The effect of guarana is basically due to the caffeine and in moderate doses it increases memory, alertness and mood. The most interesting thing about guarana is that when the fruit splits open it looks like eyeballs. Seriously - google image search that. It's kinda freaky.
